Blueridge Acoustics!

Here's another that you might want to try. BlueRidge Acoustic guitars are a high quality low cost acoustic with all the accoutremonts of their more notable cousins. We just tuned and displayed a Pre-War (Brazillian Rosewood!), a Gospel Singer's, a Lonesome Pine Fiddlers signature, a Parlor guitar and a Mahogany dreadnaught. All are great sounding guitars and all have exceptional tone and volume.

Ari Hest and Cara at the Lewis County Historical Society
I've missed a few weeks here, but I'll catch up.
For starters, I've never been disappointed at the Black River Valley Concert Series in Lowville, NY. I've seen dozens of concerts there and they've all been extraordinary and fun.
A few weeks ago I saw Ari Hest perform in Lowville. He is a great songwriter and performer. Very low key but endearing. His songs resonated a powerful truth and a musical intensity that was very interesting. He came with a percussionist. I say "percussionist" because he had no drums. He used an upholstered piano bench and a myriad of shakers, jingles and noisemakers as his percussion section in addition to a cajon. It was a very engaging array of different sound and feelings that brought the listeners in and allowed them to relax and enjoy the living room setting of Ari Hest and band. I thouroughly enjoyed the music.
Now, onto the next performance:
Last Saturday I attended the CARA concert in Lowville and was enjoyably astounded by the many different sounds and styles performed. Cara is a German Celtic music group that performs a wide variety of different Irish, Scottish, English and German folksongs as well as a number of more contemporary songs written by themselves. I was most entertained by the different instruments and personalities that the band brought to the stage. There was a fiddle, Bodhran, Squeezebox, Piano, Guitar, Fife, and Pipes. The sound was spiritually very uplifting and comical. It was the kind of music that make one smile while listening to a funeral song. I loved it. It was yet another performance brought to us by the Lewis County Historical Society and it wsa , as always, a spiritually healthy experience. I felt closer to the world and closer to mytself after I left. I highly recommend attending another CARA show!
The lineup is as follows for the rest of the winter. I will be attending everyone that the weather and the gods permit and will comment after each show.
March 21st, 7pm, Sunday at the Beaver River Central School.
March 27th, Buskin & Batteau
April 10th, John Jorgenson Quintet (DO NOT MISS!)
April 24th, Zen For Primates
April 30th, Friday, Bruce Robison.
May 8th, Stephen Fearing

Lindsay Mac @ The Black River Concert Series.
My expectations were moderate, I'd never heard of anyone playing the cello the way Lindsay did. My expectations were wholey inadequate for the experience I had last Saturday night. I was filled and renewed by the music and the presence of the Lindsay Mac band! Her manner was unassuming and her songs were soul delving and inspiring.
She plays her cello hung about her neck like a guitar and plucks and strums instead of bowing the instrument. Playing the cello in this was adds a folky, earthy tone to all the music and draws the listener in by the sweet and warm tones of the cello. Here songwriting was straight to the heart by the backdoor. I felt her lyrics move me and surprise me and her music, just the music, lifted me off the floor and into the skylight.
Now for the band. The guitar player was quiet and unassuming but perfect. Her tone and method of attack was perfectly complementory to Lindsay's style and I felt as if the guitar was an instrument of su-port to the entire song instead of an instrument of its own. The percussion sectioin was wild and full of energy. The rhythym was not just inthe drums but in the drummer.
This was another fantastic and spiritually enriching show and I would encourage anyone out there listening to see Lindsay Mac or listen to her music.
The lineup is as follows for the rest of the winter. I will be attending everyone that the weather and the gods permit and will comment after each show.

Well, I'm back and trying to blog again.
I have never seen such an engaging performer as Lipbone Redding. From the first note to the last drum roll he kept the audience in his living room with his incredibly personable charm and vitality. I would go to see him again and again. "Lipbone" is the name of his lip trombone sound. Without any devices or props he can make the perfect fascimile of a trombone sound with his lips. It really was something to see (and hear).
The band was tight and expressive and his songs were happy, rollicking and good humored. I highly recommend checking our Lipbone online or in person. You will not regret it.
The next concert is Lindsay Mac. From what I can gather she plays the cello like a guitar, strapped to her shoulders and plucked with her fingers. There is a great little youtube segment on her playing "Blackbird." I'm looking forward to more great music nad good wine next week, February 13th at 8pm at the Lewis County Historical Society in Lowville NY.
